The lights are on at HAH!

Two new generators were recently delivered to HAH. Given our long struggle with poorly functioning generators and the risks involved with transporting the new units to our facility, we are so thankful to see these new machines safely delivered to our hospital. This was a collaborative effort by our HAH staff, donors, and the men who bravely completed the delivery.

We occasionally get city power, but it is very unpredictable. One of our two previous generators was completely dead, and the other was barely functioning. In spite of less-than-perfect maintenance, our generators had survived past their expected

lifecycle. However, the bad quality electricity was burning up compressor pumps and electronics, and the unreliability was costing the hospital thousands of dollars in lost productivity. After studying the situation, we decided to purchase two new units.

Even during a fuel crisis or failure of our generators, we can keep the most important parts of the hospital functioning with solar power. Last year, we installed 80KW of solar panels. A large lithium battery backup system provides power throughout the night and then recharges in the day to provide 24/7 power to emergency circuits and crucial services in the hospital. The addition of solar allowed us to replace our two 200KW generators with 150KW and 125KW generators. This significantly reduces our fuel burn and preserves the environment. New maintenance protocols are in place for the new units, and we have a dedicated mechanic who will ensure their health and longevity. Ultimately, reliable electricity and decreased operating costs help us live out our mission to provide high-quality care to all classes of people.

Celebrating in tough times

The pride in maintaining our hospital continues throughout these challenging times. Last week, Mr. Laguerre, the hospital painter, messaged me asking me to authorize two helpers to paint the front of the hospital before some end-of-the-year festivities.

Given the tight financial situation and overwhelming responsibilities of our hospital COO, our administrative team had decided to forego end-of-year celebrations. When the department leaders found out about this, they all decided to chip in to organize a special event. The painting was authorized, and everyone is excited about celebrating all that we have to be thankful for in 2024.

Thank you to all who support our hospital. Your prayers and financial contributions create a safe and secure work environment for our staff and encourage perseverance in spite of tragedy and chaos. Patients who need help can still find it at HAH. We continue to use each donation effectively to relieve suffering and share light and hope with all those around us.

  1. Praise God for providing the new generators What a blessing ! The upgrades and paint improvements look great too. So thankful that God has sustained the mission of HAH for almost 15 years since the big earthquake and just think of the many lives touched and saved by many dedicated souls that serve and have served at HAH over these past years thru much chaos and more recent dangerous times. What an amazing God with us thru it all🙏🙏🙏
